The Communications Department is the NBPA’s primary
liaison with the national media, responsible for monitoring
and servicing the NBA and news media, issuing press releases
on behalf of the NBPA, coordinating press conferences, and
other tasks. In addition, the Communications Department:
Consults with any player regarding media relations, player
complaints regarding specific media outlets or specific stories,
and provides advice and training to assist in dealing with
media generally;
Develops media strategy and message points for NBPA officials
and officers on topics including collective bargaining, NBPA
community service initiatives, etc.;
Coordinates NBPA and player credential requests;
Assists players in developing marketing opportunities and
strategies; and
Assists NBPA sponsorship department in developing and maintaining
sponsor affiliations and relationships.
