NBPA Back In Action
As of Dec. 1, 2011, a majority of NBA players have authorized the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) to serve as their collective bargaining representative. Although the cards are still rolling in, nearly 300 players already have submitted authorization cards to the American Arbitration Association, which has been collecting and verifying the cards during the authorization process.
Pursuant to this authorization, the NBPA can now move forward in negotiating a collective bargaining agreement, with players expected to hold a vote on whether to ratify the agreement by the end of next week.
Should the negotiation and ratification process stay on its anticipated timeline, the league is prepared to open training camps and free agency on Dec. 9, with several season openers scheduled for Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
