of Security
The NBPA Security Department was established in 1994. Its
purpose is to conduct investigations at the request of NBA
players. Since that time, the Security Department has established
a liaison with local and federal law enforcement officials
in every NBA city in an effort to ensure that any complaint
by players will receive appropriate attention.
The Director of Security is also responsible for overseeing
the Drugs of Abuse Program on behalf of the NBPA. This responsibility
includes monitoring the drug tests of Rookies and Veteran
players conducted by NBA Security, and monitoring the Anti-Drug
agreement between the NBPA and the NBA regarding recovering
substance abusers.
The NBPA Security Department also assists the NBA Security
Department in preparation for major events involving NBA players
{i.e. USA Basketball, All Star Game, NBA Draft, Rookie Transition
Program and arena security at NBA games}
